Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
